Slide 29 of 35
Notes:
The amount of information that can be processed at once and, so sent on to long term memory, is limited. Most adults have the capacity to work with about seven discrete pieces of information at once - give or take two!
The implications for educators are profound. A six step algorithm may be lethal to some nine year olds. A set of 3 simple verbal directions in class may bewilder some five year olds.
The amount of information we can handle becomes greater as discrete bits of information are chunked together. See the next slide.
