Once sensory memory enters the brain, the limbic system takes over, screening for emotional relevance. Relevant information is sent to short term memory where rehearsal and elaboration send it on to long term memory. Emotionally charged events are more easily recalled than mundane information.
Novelty, movement, emotionally relevant scenarios, social interaction all develop stronger connections than decontextualized or irrelevant material.
