Class Notes by Beth Hutchinson:
An on-line resource that you will be using soon will be the Arkansas Curriculum Frameworks . You will need to show a relationship of the curriculum units that you are writing to those state standards or frameworks.
Here is a sample curriculum unit that another student did for her curriculum writing project. It did not get a perfect score, but it scored very high, and has many good ideas.
And here are some ideas for the presentations for next week.

Regular EDFD6313 news. This course examines how curricula in schools come into existence, how they are evaluated, modified, and how they sometimes cease to exist. Curriculum development has become a very busy area of school life since legislatures and governors (to say nothing of the federal government) have become more and more a part of schools' everyday life. It seems that everyone has some idea of what should be taught in the schools. Curriculum development is an orderly process of determining what is taught in schools--what information is taught, to some degree how it is taught, how it will be evaluated, and whether the information stays.
Curriculum development is usually a healthy process for schools. The school that does not review each area of its curriculum at least every three years tends to become very sluggish and out-of-date. Oftentimes no one knows what is being taught! It is important that each school systematically review its curricula so that the instruction offered to its students is timely, well-planned, and effectively presented.
