Dear Dr. Lewis:

We have talked in the past about how we might work together to place more student teachers in the Harrison School District.  I believe that recent developments in the adoption of and alignment to Pathwise may provide us with the support we have needed.  We now have a certified Pathwise trainer on faculty, and all of our faculty have or are receiving Pathwise training.  We are presently involved in aligning curriculum in all of our programs, early childhood, middle level and secondary.  If supervisors in the field also shared this training, we would all be on the same page and be able to provide and receive improved, consistent and constructive feedback in the preparation of pre-service teachers.  We believe this approach to teacher preparation will improve the quality of the first-year teacher and impact student learning.

To that end, we would like to hold a Pathwise training in your area.  We are looking at December 7th and 8th.  Arkansas Tech would provide the trainer and pay for substitutes for 6 to 8 teachers from your district.  We would be offering the same training to Jasper and Deer so that we would have a compliment of at least 20 teachers for the two-day training.  We would ask that trained teachers, then, be available to received student teachers beginning in the spring of 2001.

I’ll be anxious to hear if this is of interest to you and look forward to your comments.

Sincerely,

Gwen Morgan
