Maintains a filing system and database to monitor progress in professional programs of all Early Childhood, Middle Level and Secondary Education students, active and inactive.

There will be a student folder containing current and accurate information for 100% of the education majors enrolled in a professional education program at Arkansas Tech.

Criteria have been met.  100% of ECED and MLED folders were checked at the beginning of each semester.

Inactive students and students who have changed their major have been identified and folders moved to the inactive file.  Students enrolled but having no folder have been identified and folders made or requested from the advising center, registrar’s office or the office of a previous major.  Advisors have been assigned for ECED and MLED majors entering the School of Education.

Criteria have been met.  100% of  SEED majors completing 2003 have folders on file in the office of Director Teacher Education Student Services appropriately dated for continued tracking.

An annual check of folders on file for SEED majors with a date of four years or older or not having applied for Stage II to date has been completed.  A determination has been made whether to keep each in active or move them to inactive files.  Reasons for inactive status identified include a) graduated, b) changed major and c) dropped out of school.

100% of students enrolled in Stage II/Phase II courses will have an approved Stage II/Phase II application on file in the office of Director Teacher Education Student Services.

Criteria have been met.  Monitoring and purging enrollment in Stage II/Phase II courses from preregistration until the last day to drop/add in each semester has determined that 100% of students enrolled in Stage II/Phase II courses in all programs (ECED, MLED and SEED) have an approved application to Stage II/Phase II on file in the office of Director Teacher Education Student Services.

Students purged from the rolls and their advisors have been notified and provided necessary information for continued progress toward accomplishment of performance standards.

100% of Internship applications have been invited, received and processed prior to the first day of classes of each semester.

Criteria have been met.  5 meetings were held in the first five weeks of each semester inviting all education majors in all programs to apply for internship in the semester prior to intended internship.  100% of those responding were tracked each semester.  In the fall, 100% of those responding completed the application process.  For the spring, 97% have completed the application process and are pending final approval and placement.  3% (2 HPE candidates) have yet to complete the application process.  Contact is continued with both candidate and advisor.

Applications of intention have been used to initiate distribution and requests for placement in partner schools.  New partnerships have been solicited to satisfy students needs.  All applications will be acted on with the close of the spring semester.  Approval, denial or pending summer work status will be determined.

Receive requests, place, verify and administer evaluation of select field experiences in ECED, MLED and SEED programs.

100% of students enrolled in SEED 2002, SEED 3554, SEED 4556, ECED 2002, ECED 3053, MLED 2001, MLED 3023, MLED 3071, MLED 3092 and MLED 4023 have been placed for appropriate field experience by the 6th week of classes.

Student rosters for each course were posted in the 3rd week of classes.  Assigned placements were posted to rosters as confirmation was received from partner schools.  Requests not confirmed in one week were followed up and redirected until an appropriate placement was secured.  100% of requests received had been confirmed and posted by the 6th week of classes for both spring and fall semesters.

Information received through contacts with partner schools in requesting field placements was used to improve working relationships (e.g. updating contact files; establishing the most efficient technology tool for communication including fax, e-mail and hard mail).  Tracking of placement from receipt of request for field experience from instructors to date requests sent to date of confirmation received from schools and posting for candidate notice as well as the utilization of partner schools in the service area has been developed to describe, assess and refine the field placement process.  Information will be shared with department head and dean each semester for continued expansion, refinement and development of partnerships.  Appropriate data files will be sent to the NCATE electronic folio.  Use of technology to improve communication and the efficiency of placement was reevaluated to insure compatibility between university and field systems.  Support of computer technology for data gathering and fax capability are critical.  A new fax machine has been requested.  Virus protection has been updated.  Staff has been trained in use of new technologies, particularly EXCEL and WebSurveyor.

100% of students placed in field experiences have been verified and evaluations of performance have been sent to supervising teachers by the 11th week of classes.

Criteria has been met for both fall and spring semesters.

WebSurveyor was implemented in the spring semester for evaluation of performance in the field.  Use of the technology will be evaluated with the close of the spring semester.

Prepare and distribute materials for supervision and evaluation of field placements.

100% of unit supervisors received sufficient and correct materials for supervision and evaluation of assigned interns by the 2nd week of classes each semester.

Criteria have been met.  Folders were prepared for each unit supervisor and sent by the 2nd week of classes each semester.  Fall changes were sent out in the 4th week of classes.

Master copies have been tabbed so that corrections are made with the next printing and distribution.

100% of field evaluations received have been filed in students’ folders.

Criteria met.

WebSurveyor was implemented in the spring semester for evaluation of performance in the field.  Use of the technology will be evaluated with the close of the spring semester.

100% of Praxis I and II scores received have been entered into the database and a summary of results has been reported to appropriate department heads.

Criteria met.

Department heads have responded favorably.  Additional information requested by programs for further analysis has been made available to enhance program assessment and goal setting.

100% of interns completing internship have completed all exit evaluations and summarized data has been reported to appropriate stakeholders.

Criteria met.  At close of the fall semester exit packets were collected, sorted and sent to be scanned.  Scantron tabulation was received within one week.  Subsequent data has been added to EXCEL files and preparation of summaries will be completed with the close of the spring semester.  WebSurveyor was implemented for exit evaluation in the spring semester.  Resulting data will be added to fall results.  Reports to appropriate stakeholders will be completed and distributed with the opening of the coming academic year.

Results will be summarized , routed to the unit department head and program faculty, filed to the electronic folio as appropriate and added to assessment task force data to be distributed to appropriate stakeholders.

Exit Portfolio data has been collected, summarized and reported to appropriate stakeholders.

Criteria have been met.  At close of each semester Exit Portfolio data was collected using Taskstream electronic format.  Analysis was completed within one week of the close of each semester.  Annual summary will be completed with the close of the spring semester.  Reports to appropriate stakeholders will be completed and distributed with the opening of the coming academic year.

Results will be summarized , routed to the unit department head and program faculty, filed to the electronic folio as appropriate and added to assessment task force data to be distributed to appropriate stakeholders.

Facilitates communication with and between students, school administrators and service center offices to support the development of teacher candidates in all programs.

Director and staff provide accurate information and appropriately route inquiries courteously and professionally with no more than 3 documented complaints in the semester.

Criteria have been met.  No more than three documented complaints have been received.  Phone contacts and site visits were made by the Director and exit packet evaluation items reviewed to verify service and seek suggestions for improving communication and support.  Placement agreements with partner schools have been renewed for the 2004-2005 academic year.

Resulting data will be analyzed and recommendations for needed communication with new principals in the service area as well as updating all principals and adjunct faculty to changes in field experiences in all programs in response to changes in licensure.

Field sites meet internal and external standards for placement, particularly:

1)       100% of teacher candidates are placed in internship with PATHWISE trained field supervisors;

2)       100% of field supervisors are licensed in the content-specific teaching field supervised;

3)       The service area provides diverse and varied field settings for developing candidates.

1)       100% of teacher candidates were placed in internship with PATHWISE trained field-based and/or campus-based supervisors;

Fall Placement                  Spring Placement

ECED  73% Cohort                   77% Cohort

MLED 50% Cohort                   20% Cohort

SEED   18% Cohort                   14% Cohort

TOTAL 39% Cohort                  38% Cohort

2)       100% of field supervisors of internship were licensed in the content-specific teaching field supervised;

3)       An annual diversity study revealed pockets of increasing diversity in the service area.  These identified districts were then cross referenced with placement data.  The districts offering the most diverse student populations are identified, but are currently underused.

1)       Renewed agreements with public schools in the service area now include PATHWISE training in qualifications of field supervisors.   Three faculty have become PATHWISE trainers.  The School of Education will offer PATHWISE training once each semester and once each summer. The Director Teacher Education Student Services will send training information with the request for placement to encourage participation of field-based supervisors. All faculty, adjunct faculty and content faculty are continuously invited to training.  Cohort Clinical Practice Instructors will renew PATHWISE training in preschool workshop.  46 Cohort members completed the workshop (5 MLED, 33 ECED, and 8 SEED).  The Director Teacher Education Student Services will avoid placement with mentors not seeking at least PATHWISE training with preference for Cohort participation.

2)       The Director Teacher Education Student Services will continue to monitor to maintain criteria.

3)       The Director Teacher Education Student Services has identified underused districts providing more diverse student populations for field experience.  Dialogue within the unit is planned to generate ideas for greater utilization of the most diverse schools in the service area.
