  • Students plan and analyzed a theory based unit of study, teach and video a lesson from the unit of study, and further refine there beliefs about teaching and learning.

·        Expectation is for candidates to score at least 70 % of available points.

  • Students create a parent newsletter that must reflect middle school concept understanding and application.

NMSA Standard 1: Young Adolescent Development  Middle level teacher candidates understand the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to young adolescent development, and they provide opportunities that support student development and learning.

 

NMSA Standard 5: Middle Level Instruction and Assessment  Middle level teacher candidates understand and use the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to effective instruction and assessment, and they employ a variety of strategies for a developmentally appropriate climate to meet the varying abilities and learning styles of all young adolescents.

1. MLED 3072 Research Awareness Project (RAP) sections 1, 2, 4, 7, 8

  • This project requires students to complete an in depth study of an exceptionality, observe a child diagnosed with the exceptionality, and plan theory based instruction for the child.
  • We expect 100% of students to score at least 70% on RAP
  • We expect 100% of students to score at least 70% on each of the 8 rubric criteria

 

2. MLED 3024 Unit Plan/Paradigmatic

NMSA Standard 7: Middle Level Professional Roles Middle level teacher candidates understand the complexity of teaching young adolescents, and they engage in practices and behaviors that develop their competence as professionals.

1. MLED 2002 My Beliefs about Teaching and Learning 

  • We expect that 80% of students will score a 2 or above on at least 70% of criteria.

  • During their internship student complete a 7 task Professional Exit Portfolio. Section 1 requires students to state their beliefs about teaching and learning. Section 6 students are required to create a professional development plan and resume.

NMSA Standard 2: Middle Level Philosophy and School Organization  Middle level teacher candidates understand the major concepts, principles, theories, and research underlying the philosophical foundations of developmentally responsive middle level programs and schools, and they work successfully within these organizational components.

We expect 100% of students to score at least a 3 on a 5 point scale on exit competencies under Principle #5 (34-50).

 

4. MLED 2002 and 4023 Field Experience Evaluation Forms

  • These two courses represent the introduction and capstone field experience courses. Students are evaluated by the teachers who supervise them in the field.
