Subject: program review for NCTE

Dear David:

As we discussed by phone, the interim program report submitted by Arkansas

Tech in February 2004 was not reviewed by NCTE.  After we spoke, I

contacted Sandra Gibbs at NCTE to verify the problem, and she told me that

the interim report was based on the 1992 NCTE standards - and not on the

1997 NCTE standards - and therefore could not be reviewed.

NCATE no longer accepts interim reports, and as of this semester, will move

to an electronic program review system. Thus, I think the best remedy for

the above situation would be to ask you to submit a new English Language

Arts program report in either spring 2005 (due date 2/1/05) or in fall 2005

at the latest (due date 9/15/05). A pilot NCTE report form is on our

program standards webpage, but will soon be transferred to a web-based

reporting format. However, the information at this link should give you a

sense of what will be expected in future program reports.

At your upcoming NCATE visit, I'd suggest you have the 6/22/99 NCTE program

report available for the team, along with this email. This email should

provide verification that your institution may have received some

misleading information from either NCATE or NCTE about what was expected in

the interim report, and that your institution has and is continuing to make

a good-faith effort to meet NCATE's program review requirements.
