Department Head Meeting Minutes

Dr. Sheets presented the idea of developing a writing team
in order to publicize what’s happening in the
Institutional membership list distributed to members. Dr. Sheets advised members to look it over. Ideas for additions to list need to be e-mailed to him. Question was brought up by Dr. Holeyfied on who pays for NASPE membership. It is not on the list. Dr. Sheets will check on this.
Maintenance and repair of academic building list was distributed and reviewed by members. Dr. Sheets asked members to create a prioritized list of things that need to be fixed in their building starting with number 1 as being the most needed. It was agreed that the steps in front of Crabaugh building are dangerous and should be high priority. This is on the list and has been for a while, but Dr. Sheets will see what he can do to speed this up. Questions were presented on the tennis court repair and whether there is still a need for the repair since future plans include a new dorm to be built where the tennis courts are currently located. Dr. Sheets will check on time frame for new dorm and where new tennis courts will be built.
Guidelines were distributed on the mobilization of troops. Several students have been called to active duty and will be dropping classes. Refunds will be given. Dr. Sheets stressed the importance of positive faculty involvement by working with the students in their best interest. Incompletes are not recommended due to absence of student is usually a year or longer and the “I” has to be completed be the end of the following semester. Again, consideration will be given to whatever is best for the student.
Promotion and Tenure: changes have been made on page 31 regarding specs of portfolios. Dr. Sheets stressed importance of sticking to the guidelines.
A pilot program will be put in place until January 2004 for the use of procurement cards.
Testing and
Tammy Rhodes, Registrar, has offered to provide training for faculty on web registration, etc. Dr. Sheets encouraged department heads to invite her to faculty meetings and consider her offer for training.
Handout on enrollment distributed. ATU now has almost 6,000 students.
New Business:
Update on Dr. Leggett’s eye surgery. It did not go as well as planned but he hopes
to be back to work on Tuesday (
Update on Dr. Cadle. He is recuperating well from his motorcycle accident.
Dr. Gunter will take volunteers who are willing to help provide services for review of portfolios.
