Path: Home --> Faculty --> Dr. Morgan --> Field Placement --> ECED 3043/ECED 3053 Re: Field Experiences ECED 3043/ECED 3053 Dear Supervising Teacher: Thank you for agreeing to act as a supervising teacher for one of Arkansas Tech University’s teacher candidates from the Early Childhood Education Department. As you know, our candidates are preparing for licensure for P-Grade 4 and their observations in the public schools are a valuable part of this process. As their ATU professor, I have requested that the candidates contact you before arriving at their first observation. The candidate will schedule 30 hours with you over the course of a few weeks. They are guests in your classroom and I want them to accommodate your schedule as much as their class schedules will allow. If a candidate has a problem meeting your teaching schedule please direct him/her back to Tech as soon as possible. Your candidate is enrolled in a mini-block of courses, specifically ECED 3053 “Children and Families in a Diverse Society”, and ECED 3043 “Developmentally AppropriatePractice.” These courses both focus on diversity, developmental levels, and developmentally appropriate instruction in the classroom. Candidates will focus on ALL learners, classroom management, academic achievement, evidence of learning outcomes, and modifications and accommodations for those children who are developmentally delayed, including gifted learners. Candidates will keep observational journals and may write in these journals while in your classroom. However, do feel free to use the candidate actively in your classroom working with your students anytime you deem appropriate. When you have time, feel free to share with them your experiences as a teacher and any advice that would be helpful in the field. I am asking for placement of ATU observers in regular classrooms when possible, first grade through fourth grade. Expectations are that the candidate will dress appropriately, behave with positive teacher dispositions, and will not disrupt any person or part of the classroom. When needed, please give the candidate suggestions for improvement. The candidate is to be engaged and on-task at all times. Whether sitting at the side or back of the classroom writing journal entries or directly working with students, the student is to be engaged and on-task. If you have any concern/s about the candidate visiting your classroom, please do not hesitate to contact me at 479-964-3256. My expectation is that candidates will be professional. I want this experience to be positive for you, your students, and Tech’s teacher candidates, who are becoming professionals of the future. Thank you for your cooperation in this endeavor. Near the end of the semester, you will receive an evaluation form to fill out along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope for returning the evaluation to me. You will also sign a timesheet to document 30 classroom hours. Being an experienced public school teacher myself, I know how your expertise and guidance can impact our candidates. So, once again, thank you for your cooperation and expertise. Sincerely, Kevin C. Costley, Ph.D. |
